The annual production capacity of display panels has reached 200 million square meters, and the industry scale has ranked first in the world. It has become an important force in upgrading information consumption and strengthening the digital economy.

The industrial scale ranks first in the world. my country's new display industry has maintained a rapid growth trend, and the scale of industry revenue has repeatedly hit new highs. Statistics from the LCD Branch of the China Optics and Optoelectronics Industry Association show that in 2021, the output value of my country's display industry will be approximately 586.8 billion yuan, an increase of nearly 8 times from 10 years ago; the display panel shipment area will be approximately 160 million square meters, an increase of more than 7 times from 10 years ago; the industry scale and display panel shipment area accounted for 36.9% and 63.3% of the global market respectively, becoming the world's first.

Key core technologies continue to make breakthroughs. In the field of LCD (liquid crystal display), domestic companies have broken through technical barriers to achieve parallel performance, and have formed leading competitiveness in terms of technology, products, market share, cost, efficiency, etc., with a global market share of more than 70%. In the field of OLED (organic light-emitting diodes), domestic companies have mastered core technologies and expanded into technological innovation areas such as high refresh rates and pixel arrangements, and their production scale has expanded rapidly. Among them, the market share of small and medium-sized OLEDs has increased rapidly. Statistics show that in the third quarter of this year, the market share of domestic smartphone OLED panels has accounted for 30% of the global market, an increase of 10 percentage points from the same period last year. In addition, my country is catching up with new generation display technologies such as micro-display, printed display, and laser display, and technological and industrial chain breakthroughs are imminent.

The role of display empowerment continues to expand. The new display industry strongly supports applications in smartphones, TVs, monitors, laptops, tablets and other fields. It plays a unique role in many emerging industries such as digital cultural tourism, digital medical care, education and training, automotive display, and digital equipment. It also provides the material foundation and implementation path for forward-looking industries such as the Metaverse and digital twins.

The relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that next, they will continue to improve the resilience of the industrial chain and supply chain, make every effort to conquer the key core technologies of the new display industry, strengthen the in-depth integration with digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, VR/AR, big data, and the Internet of Things, deepen international exchanges and cooperation, and promote my country's new display industry to move towards the mid-to-high end of the value chain.
