Mike Watson, Durham's vice president of product strategy, issued a statement saying that because it is being used as a warehouse, only a very small number of new employees will be sent to work in the warehouse, and it is likely that only one or two positions will be created.
As of July 1, Cree had 7,056 employees, including 2,463 employees in North Carolina.
In addition to manufacturing indoor and outdoor LED luminaires, Cree also produces LEDs and other components used in lighting products by other companies. Cree's LEDs are used in a wide range of applications, including cell phones, televisions, automotive dashboards and other devices.
Cree's revenue in the most recent quarter reached $405.3 million, a year-over-year increase of 16%.
