The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) releases updated version of LED street light specifications and standards

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released the "LED Street Light Specification Standard V2.0", which is usually used by members of the DOE Municipal Solid State Street Light Alliance (MSSLC) to develop LED road lighting specification projects. The new "LED Street Light Standard Specification" can be downloaded from the U.S. Department of Energy website. Version 2.0 is a follow-up to the original version released in late 2011, and now the U.S. Department of Energy is helping municipalities and other agencies by developing documents to guide light fixture procurement. In fact, the specification only requires municipalities to fill in the template according to specific specifications, suitable for the project at hand, and quickly generate a comprehensive procurement document. Although the work was carried out with the support of MSSLC members, the DOE was free to publish the specifications. The new version makes some changes aimed at simplifying the document, but more importantly, adds references to standards and other documents that appeared in the original document publication. In addition, the standard specification also refers to the "Adaptive Control and Remote Monitoring Module Specification" template released in the spring of 2013 for cities interested in integrating lighting with the Internet. Several important modifications and additions regarding luminaires, including references to multiple ANSI specifications detailing changes from light control sockets to electrical isolation and noise immunity. The new specification adds a reference based on the IES TM-21 method to the Energy Star calculator to evaluate the service life of LED luminaires. The new specification is compatible with the latest version of the IES RP-8 standard for road lighting.
