The OLED market is expected to rise in 2020

New lighting technologies continue to emerge. Panasonic R&D Director Takuya Komoda said that in 2020, LED and OLED lighting will completely replace traditional lighting. Among them, OLED lighting has a material utilization rate of 70% and a market size of 10 billion U.S. dollars. The price per thousand lumens will be greatly compressed, and first-tier manufacturers will enter mass production in the next 2 to 3 years

Takuya Komoda said that OLED lighting has a material utilization rate of 70%, and the investment threshold is lower than panels, but the technical content is extremely high. Panasonic is actively investing, and it is estimated that the OLED market size is expected to reach 10 billion U.S. dollars by 2020. He believes that LED lighting mainly replaces the existing market, but is limited by luminous efficiency and cannot stimulate new demand. However, OLED lighting can stimulate new demand. He expects that by 2020, LED and OLED lighting will completely replace traditional lighting.

Takuya Komoda also said that at the current price, the cost of OLED per thousand lumens is 20 times that of LED. He believes that as more manufacturers invest,It will be reduced to 2 times, and unlike LED lighting, which must convert point light sources into surface light sources, the LED manufacturing process needs to add light guide plates, packaging, chip processing, etc., resulting in an increase in final costs. Therefore, the final cost of OLED will be lower than that of LED. In addition to Panasonic, major manufacturers such as Philips are also expected to enter mass production within 2 to 3 years.
